"A few months ago, Daniel Estorach Martin began to advertise in various forums, including those of Fantasymundo, a novel written and published in blog format, entitled" Today has been a very beast. " Such was its spread that a publisher, Marge Books, the paper published last December.

Fantasymundo took a copy of review and comment on the novel, which garnered positive reviews from many websites on the Internet. Today we chat with the author, also a user of the forum.

Anyone who wants to publish a new author someday paper would do well to look at the case of this entrepreneur from Barcelona that he stuck to his commitment to see his novel in bookstores.

Fantasymundo: Daniel, Today I spent some very beast has emerged, initially as a blog where you were going up the novel. Prior to advertising, promotion and forums with good results and thousands of visits to the blog. How to make this marketing campaign?

Estorach Daniel Martin: Actually, I started to write the story without claiming that later became a novel, and I started my blog published simultaneously in both forums and other literature quite significant: Meristation and The Other Side . Such was the reaction to it, and so positive, that I soon realized I had something important in hand and should finish the story and outside. For personal reasons I could not finish work at that time and I was doing over the next 2 years, when he could, but I was posting in more and more forums to begin to improve its dissemination and gather more opinions. I guess that's what that little by little, became more and more people were discovering the history and blog.

Fantasymundo: Your novel tells the story of Daniel, a young man who one day wakes up with headaches and nosebleeds. Then we discovered that he has powers and decides to fight crime on the streets of Barcelona. Even if you are told so realistic has some influence in the comics. What inspired you to comics? Or what specifically superhero?

Estorach Daniel Martin: Well if I'm honest I'm not inspired by any particular superhero, although I have to admit that the most realistic comics genre, especially the stage of Frank Miller on Daredevil, are the ones I have influenced. Outside of comics, Unbreakable, the great film director M. Night Shyamalan, starring Bruce Willis as an actor, also helped me when starting. to tell this story. I've always said it's a shame that Shyamalan did not continue what was supposedly a trilogy since that first movie is something purely anecdotal, a mere prologue.

Now you understand why I have not been able to inspire much in other stories. Incredibly, there is little realistic superhero comics, and none, to my knowledge, leading to the extreme realism, as I have tried to do in my novel. It was something that was needed and that no one had tried with success. I saw an opportunity to have something new and I jumped without thinking.

Fantasymundo: You mentioned comics and movies, but no other genre novels, superhero literature is not there?

Estorach Daniel Martin: There is, but very little. In the U.S., for example, suppose that as the country where they were born, they are novels of superheroes, but it is a minority gender. But here is worse. Here, in Spain and virtually the rest of the world literature there is no superhero, and this is easily explained: comics, which is the format that came out superheroes, and movies are totally visual media very dynamic and very difficult to translate that to a page where there is text only. It can be done in a way that works, but the writer must change the approach and not try to just make a story a comic novel, which is the failure to make most novelists of the genre in the United States and because the genre has not only achieved a remarkable success at the literary.

I'd like to change this trend and, for now, judging by the criticism and comments from readers, can we go in the right direction. But that only time will tell.

Fantasymundo: And speaking of realism. Today has been a very beast is loaded with social criticism. It speaks, for example, domestic violence, as well as the need to make a difference, which is something that the protagonist frequently repeated throughout the novel. Was there some event or something that had happened to want to show that in your novel?

Estorach Daniel Martin: Actually, many . I would say that too. And is that many of the situations that arise in the novel I have lived in real life but obviously not well resolved or I have lived from another point of view. In a novel attempt to show, in addition to what could happen to someone who wanted to become a superhero in today's reality, the vast indifference to the injustice with which live today and why our society is becoming more necessary to appear heroes . And we are in need of heroes, people who are a good example to follow. You only need to look at television programming, newspapers, internet, to realize that they are not.

Fantasymundo: The novel is structured as a blog entries How did you write this? Why did so instead of the traditional structure? Daniel

Estorach Martin: can say that at first I took the story as an experiment, and the blog format was ideal for what I wanted. I was very interested mainly brings realism and see if it was possible that, in reading the first innings, people be raised if we had was real or not, and receive almost instant feedback. The truth is that the principles were fun and surprising, because many people believed it was true what he was reading and some were concerned and tried to give me advice and help.

addition, a more literary level as learning interested me practice writing a story in first person and virtually in real time. According to experts write something like this is the hardest out there.

Fantasymundo: Today has been a very beast has been published by Books Marge, how was the jump from blog to paper?

Estorach Daniel Martin: Well as I said before, I had not crossed his mind that this story ever get published, but the messages and words of encouragement from many readers and followers were slowly convincing me that what I was interested in writing many people, and not just superhero comics readers. As more people published entries followed the story and all seemed to like and addictive hook them in a way so eventually I was forced to give a final and, once completed, ignoring the comments from readers who asked me if send it to publishers and deserved to be published, so I did.

sent the following months Publishing a proposal to publishers and literary agencies. A lot. Some responded early to surprise me and were interested in the novel, so I sent the manuscript to all they asked me. A few months later began to arrive to offer for publication in a co-publishing (paying myself a part) from various publishers. That's when I contacted the publisher of Books for the first time Marge for advice, because I asked of 2,000 to 4,000 € and did not see it clearly. The publisher already knew Marge Books for years, having worked with them doing layout and illustrations for some of his books, and the editor there is some confidence. He advised me not to accept these "deals" that were passed on prices. And I jokingly said that if he had to co-publish do so with him I would do well priced. And that was that.

was two or three months and, while waiting for responses from literary agents and other publishers, I discovered Bubok. I decided to try his luck with them but I soon discovered that this did not work. Around the same time I began to get new answers from publishers and literary agencies, saying it was not what they were seeking or had material for reading for two years. Seeing that this was going to long and being aware that if I let go too long the effect was achieved with The blog would be diluted, I lit the lamp and went to talk to Marge Books.

A month later, in October 2010, after giving the go-ahead publisher, signed a contract to publish a first edition I still maintain exclusive rights to it, but I pay part of the cost of editing price coaster, full return me money when he had sold the first edition, as well as a percentage of the contract per book sold. This February, goes on sale and the third year, and since the second edition, released in December, is the editorial which bears all costs and the thing seems to have gone well and the book can be purchased in more and more bookstores in Spain.

Fantasymundo: Tell us about your past When did you start writing? What did you introduced the writing bug in your veins?

Estorach Daniel Martin: Since I have memory, so I always enjoyed was telling stories, using the medium that would reach: first directing role-playing games where created my own worlds, then as a writer and artist comic book or writing stories ... I have always told stories in one way or another, come on, but it was not until today I had well advanced happened very beast when I began to wonder really the possibility to dedicate "professionally" to this in writing novels.

Fantasymundo: What book would you advise a new author to read, if you want to devote to live the story? Does anyone in particular that you mark you?

Estorach Daniel Martin: Well not think of an especially suitable for new writers, but my advice is to read a long and varied. They touch different themes to discover that they feel more comfortable and will see that there are many shapes and styles at the time of writing.

As for books that have marked me, I'm not very original, truth, among the most important would be The Lord of the Rings and Tolkien's The Hobbit, Tarzan of the Apes by Burroughs and It, by Stephen King. In fact, I remember my passion for literature began to read The Hobbit, a book that I found on a shelf in my grandparents' house and the title caught my attention powerfully. My grandmother, rest in peace, as a great reader he was, encouraged me to take it and read it. I owe her having enjoyed so much from reading and, of course, always was the first who encouraged me to write. In fact it was the first person in my family with my wife to read a part of me has gone now very beast.

Unfortunately, not finished time and could not read the end. I hope wherever you are to finish the first novel of his only grandchild, and feel proud that finally finished one of the many novels I started.

Fantasymundo: And now, tell us about your future What will happen after today, I passed a very beast? Any project you're working? Daniel
Estorach Martin: After Today has been very immediate beast, if I want to endanger my physical safety, is to continue writing the story where I left off at the end of the novel, as most of allowed readers have been wanting more and wanting to see unveiled some of the questions that were in the air. Few months I've been working on this second novel, whose title is not yet final, is secret identity. The story ends with a third book.

Apart from Barcelona superhero trilogy, I have three other novels at hand: one a prequel Today I passed a very beast called The Furies, starring one of the secondary characters in it, another call apocalyptic science fiction After chronic, located 55 years in the future, quiet, no zombies, "and other epic fantasy that I have now abandoned for lack of enough hands and time.

I am also the editor in chief-by-call him something of the newborn Independent Writers literary magazine, with a bit trying to help new writers to either promote their work or with advice and workshops of all kinds. From experience I know how hard it is we who try to dedicate this to write and I firmly believe that a magazine with this approach was necessary in English literature.

Fantasymundo: Finally. The publishing world is very complicated, what advice would you give to a young author who is trying to publish and to get their stories to other people?

Estorach Daniel Martin: him write a paper, which is constant, do not wait for inspiration and, above all, to share what they write online. Internet is a wonderful platform to highlight an unknown author and win readers and offers the possibility of being in contact with them and know what they like and do not almost immediately. In addition, internet does not understand fashion or benefits, so that success depends entirely on the quality of the writing, not external factors. And then, if writing is really good and interesting, the leap to the role not so difficult.

Fantasymundo: Well thank you very much, Daniel. It's been a pleasure talking with you. From Fantasymundo wish you all the best of luck with your upcoming projects.

Estorach Daniel Martin: Thank you Carlos, and Fantasymundo for your interest. It was an honor to be interviewed by you. "
